CVAIA Encourages Financial Independance

Logan, Utah- Could you survive if you lost your job or quit working for some other reason? If you answered no then you are not financially independant. Financial independance is widely misunderstood in Cache Valley and throughout the country and because people don't understand it they don't achieve it. To educate citizens concerning financial security is a big priority for Cache Valley.

The Cache Valley Area Investors Association was founded two years ago to help people achieve financial independance. "I want people to be happy," said Preston Parker, founder and president of CVAIA, "a whole lot of people are complaining about their jobs, but they don't need to. When financially independant, you can have whatever job you want because you have enough money from your passive income." Parker and the CVAIA educate their members that financial independance is achieved when a persons passive income (money acquired from investments) is higher than a persons expenses. "You should not like my father-in-law have to work at a job for 39 years that you hate and complain about almost everyday," explained Parker, "I know financially independant garbage truck drivers who do it becuase they love seeing the smiles on kids faces when the truck comes, not because they need the income.

"The CVAIA holds meetings at 7:00 pm every other Thursday at the Cache County Chamber of Commerce. Laywers, security and identity theft personel, small business owners, commercial and residential builders and other financial experts speak at these meetings. "These professionals who would normally charge hundreds of dollars per hour, speak on how to invest your time, assests and experience to become financially independant," explained Parker, "but we are doing it free of charge."

"Bring a piece of paper and a writing utencil," said Parker, "in five years you could be financially independant if you really want."

Boilerplate:
Cache Valley Area Investors Association (CVAIA) teaches people how to increase passive income. CVAIA embraces the Law of Attraction, Law of Abundance, and Law of Exchange. CVAIA began in August 2007 and now has members from many geographical locations and from all walks of life. Boys and Girls Club starts new site at Thomas Edison School

More and more these days, children are at home without adult care and supervision. Young people need to be cared for and learn skills and values that will make them successful in life. A new teen development program called the Boys and Girls Club is now being offered at the Thomas Edison School in Cache Valley. It happens Monday through Friday immediately after school from 3:05 to 5:30 and teaches different life skills to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.

“The program offers the kids an opportunity to stay at school and interact with other kids instead of going home alone,” said Katie Andeline, the club coordinator, “We teach things such as healthy bodies, financial planning and career development. We help the kids with their homework and tutor them, but we also do fun activities and invite guest speakers that the kids can look up to and learn from.” Recently, an expert on nutrition came and instructed the kids about nutrition. In January, a couple soccer players from the Utah State women’s team are scheduled to come. “We are looking for other volunteers to come talk to the kids as well,” said Andeline.

The Boys and Girls club, which is averaging about 12 participants every day, operates under a prevention grant that allows the program to be completely free. In order to qualify for and keep the grant, they are required to continue teaching practical life skills. The club directors review activity calendars, safety requirements, and overall quality of the program to ensure that it follows the curriculum and remains a valuable resource for the students.

“In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. Young people need to know that someone cares for them. Boys and Girls Club offers that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence,” –www.bgca.org/whoweare.

Position Paper

Burger Planet offers healthy menu December 3, 2009
  • Healthier foods offered
  • Jayne Peterson is hired as spokesperson
  • Perfect for women ages 30-40
  • Promotional events with Corny the Clown and Jayne Peterson

Burger Planet has been known as an unhealthy "fast food" restaurant. A women was asked to name the one word that pops into her mind when she hears the name "Burger Planet", the woman said: "Grease." A 39-year-old waitress who used to eat at Burger Planet once a week and now never goes there. She said: "I figure you gain 10 pounds every decade and, well, I have recently decided to change that in my own life. I like Burger Planet because it's fast and, hey, I'm a busy working mother without much time. But dining on Burger Planet caused my weight to top the 150-pound mark. And I'm barely 5 foot tall. I just made a decision that before I turn 40, I'm going to lose weight. So, I had to give up some luxuries. Like Burger Planet."

When fast food restaurants began to rise in the 1940's, so to did obesity and cancer. It is obvious that they are connected. (http://www.criticalbench.com/unhealthy_fast_food.htm). "Grease and oil are two of the worst enemies of the human heart. Apart from causing obesity and making you look ugly, greasy food items results in aggravated LDL cholesterol levels. LDL cholesterol kills more people in the world every year, than terrorism! A lot is said about refraining from sweet food products as well, but if you are working out at extreme levels and you need energy, sweetened water, lemonade or small amount of candy is not that harmful. Greasy food therefore, is definitely the most unhealthy fast food in the world today, killing more people than any other force and it required a highly motivated person to be able to get rid of these food items." (http://www.worldsmostunique.com/mostunhealthyfastfood.php)

Corny the Clown has been shoved in the background in the company's advertising campaigns out of concern he could go the way of Joe Camel (tobacco companies were accused of using that mascot to addict children to cigarette smoking). Childhood obesity is on the rise, the media have taken note of it, and "fast-food" restaurants are sometimes blamed.

In light of these negative attributes of the fast food industry, we are in the process of changing Burger Planet's image. Burger Planet now offers white chicken breast wrapped in lettuce alternative. This is available without mayonnaise which saves 500 calories. Fruit sides are offered. Apples, bananas, grapes, peaches, and pineapples are all available. Gourmet salads are also part of the new menu.

Jayne Peterson (notable trainer who has trained Opal Whitcomb) is promoting the company, she said, “Burger Planet has been a leader in the quick service restaurant industry in offering healthy menu choices. The company believes in encouraging customers to live a healthier, active lifestyle and I have spent my life trying to teach women that lesson.”

James E. Muellenbach III (company CEO) said the following concerning Jayne Peterson, “She and Burger Planet share a commitment toward health. The women Jayne Peterson has helped lose weight eat at burger planet. Burger Planet and Jayne Peterson are launching a comprehensive program to assist those women in eating healthy.” -James E. Muellenbach III (company CEO)

Burger Planet intends to resuscitate Corny's image by pairing him with Jayne Petersen in advertisements and in health-conscious appearances at restaurants and shopping malls around the country.

With the new menu choices and Jayne on the staff, our image will be changed from a "fast food" restaurant to a quick service restaurant with healthy menu choices. We will attract women ages 30-40 and families will feel comfortabel bringing their children.

Business Letter

October 8, 2009

Community Dental Center
130 West 700 South Ste: B
Smithfield, Utah 84335

To whom it may concern,
I had my first appointment with you on Tuesday and was very pleased with the way I was treated. I wanted to thank you for the way you run your business, from the way you got me an appointment to the way I was treated when I arrived.

When I called your office a couple weeks ago wishing to set up an appointment, I was expecting a few weeks wait before you could see me, like most dentist offices I had previously talked to. To my surprise however, I was scheduled in a week and a half.

When I arrived on Tuesday, I was treated very considerately by the receptionist and promptly invited by Val Hebert to go to the back where she immediately started to take x-rays and clean my teeth. Val was quick but also efficient with the cleaning and was personable and made me feel comfortable and at ease. During the painless procedure, she answered my questions and gave me tips on how to better take care of my teeth.

I let her know that I was in a little bit of a crunch for time and she took that into consideration making sure that I was finished on time. I did not have to wait between the cleaning and the examination by the dentist as I have at most dentist offices.

Dr. Scott Lyman came in and was very friendly and personable. I could tell that he was aware of my concerns and was really there to help me. He looked over my teeth carefully and informed me of the overall health of my mouth. Concerning one of my molars that will need a crown, he informed me as to what a crown is in terms that I could understand and presented a couple different options on how they could treat it- explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each. I didn’t feel any pressure from him one way or the other, he educated me and then left the decision up to me. I was also impressed with the affordable cost.

Thank you for the way you do business. I hope you will continue to treat your patients the way you treated me. As it was said in a testimonial on your website, I too felt at home at the Community Dental Center.

Sincerely,

Alex Thatcher

United Breaks Guitars

In 2008, Dave Carroll, along with his band, The Sons of Maxwell were traveling from Halifax to Omaha. During their layover in Chicago, they noticed that their luggage, including musical instruments was being tossed around by the United Airlines bag transporters. One of the pieces being tossed was Dave’s $3500 guitar.
The group arrived in Omaha at 12:30 in the morning and was very tired. There were no United employees in sight and Dave’s guitar case looked undamaged so they continued on their way to their hotel. Later the next day Dave discovered that his guitar had been badly damaged. He contacted United and told them the story. United expressed their sympathy and told him to start a claim and go back to Halifax where his trip began, but United doesn’t really have a presence in Canada.
Greg continued in trying to solve the problem by remaining in contact with United, but they consistently misplaced his claim number and sent him on a wild goose chase giving him different numbers of employees to call- none of them really helping him. Finally after nine months of trying to at least be reimbursed for the $1200, he spent on repairing the guitar, United denied Dave’s claim and told him they would not take responsibility for his broken guitar. It was then that Dave promised United that he would write three songs, each with a video, about his experience with the airline and post them on the internet for the world to see.
So far, two songs and their videos are posted on the internet and have received millions of views. Many believe the “United Breaks Guitars” songs have had a considerable impact on United’s business. According to Chris Ayres of the Times Online in the U.K., the Dave Carroll mishap has cost United $180 million. Just days after the first song went online, United’s stock prices dropped by 10 percent.
This whole incident shows the impact of public relations. Good PR can have a huge impact for good on a company, but bad PR, as in this case, can have a huge impact for bad. When the publics’ view of a company is poor, then the business suffers. Even one person can have great power in hurting a company, especially with the internet where information is very accessible a spreads extremely fast. The story has gotten the attention of newspapers and people are blogging and commenting about it on the internet. Most of the blog comments are praising Dave, relating to his experience and are negative toward United.
United is probably kicking themselves that they didn’t take care of Dave’s concern in the first place. With the money they have apparently lost, they could have bought Dave 52,000 equivalent guitars. It goes to show that taking care of customers, even if it costs a good amount initially, is worth it. There will always be incidents in any company when an employee makes a mistake or a customer is in some way treated unfairly. This is almost impossible to avoid, but the companies that make it up to the customer are the ones that keep their reputation and business.
The incident that occurred in Chicago in the spring of 2008 may have seemed very minimal and insignificant to united Airlines then, but neglecting it and not treating Dave considerately has come back to haunt them.

Letter to Cousin

Dear Dean,
Public Relations is the practice of bridging the gap between a company or organization and its publics. Instead of advertising, Public Relations exposes an organization through means that do not cost money. For example, a PR rep for a company is interviewed by a newspaper reporter and gives him information concerning his company that later shows up in the newspaper. Because PR deals with a third party, it provides more credible sources of information than advertising.

Most organizations that are affected by the publics view, have Public Relation specialists.
